Dr. Anna Tucka, Dentist

Anna was born of Ukrainian parents and raised in Poland. Her elementary school was a sports school where she trained in hurdles and high jump. She dreamed of becoming a watchmaker but her parents “wisely” sent her to an all-academic high school. Although excelling in math she also took art courses and participated in art exhibitions and summer art camps. Later, she went to the Medical Academy of Gdansk, Department of Dentistry.

“It was a tumultuous time, when Poland was trying to free itself from the Soviet Union and of course Gdansk was the epicentre of the changes—life was very interesting.”

After graduating she felt an urge to explore the world and eventually ended up in Canada. “I soon decided that Canada is beautiful, the people friendly and I that I could live here (especially after meeting my husband).”

In 1997, after traveling back to Poland to do an internship at a Military Hospital, she obtained her Canadian License. She then worked as an Associate Dentist in several offices in Toronto, Mississauga and Maple.

In 2008 she was ready to start her own practice and hearing there was one available from Dr. Jocelyn Pearce for sale in Port Hope, she acquired it in August of 2008.

“I love Port Hope, the town, the people, the patients—this is my place on earth and I feel at home here!”

Dr. Tucka’s interests are: contemporary art, sailing, scuba diving and biking. She dreams about having a dental office that incorporates an art gallery and fantasizes about retiring on a sailboat to circumnavigate the world.

“My other passion is helping the less fortunate. That is why I lend money through www.kiva.org; help to buy water filters and build schools through www.adoptavillageinlaos.blogspot.com; help to support an orphanage in Lesotho; buy farm animals, school and medical supplies through and " www.worldvision.ca, and www.charitywater.org. I also support local charities and events: www.capitoltheatre.com, and www.porthoperotary.com, Northumberland United Way.”
